Out of the running... - by @lbert
  Posted:30/10/2007 - 13:26 - in category: general
End of this week i will be out of the running for a while.
I have to go for an operation due to my Oriental Hepatitis (Cholangitis).
Luckily Alor Setar GH has a liver specialist, otherwise the other one is in Selayang GH KL.
These are the only 2 liver specialists in Malaysia. None in Penang either.

I think i will be out of the running for at least 2 weeks since it is a severe operation.
Hope to regain my old strength and weight after this is done!

The islands of Yan... - by @lbert
  Posted:30/10/2007 - 09:00 - in category: travel Malaysia
Daerah Yan has several islands out in the sea.
Pulau Bunting, Pulau Telor, Pulau Song-Song, Pulau Bidan.

Pulau Bunting now is connected via a non accessible bridge to Sg Limau.
It has a few nice small beaches, and northwest tip has fresh water.
Lots of sea urchin (bulu babi)

Pulau Song-Song has a small military camp and is sometimes not accessible when there is militairy 'testing'.
It has a nice wide beach, a man made well (dirty), and on the west side a big cave with lots of bats, lizards and snakes.
Inside very hot (over 40 degrees).
Do not swimm without slippers! Bulu babi here and there.

Pulau Bidan use to have a militairy camp, this is now abandoned.
There was talk of developing it, but so far not a trace. It has a beach on the east side.
But strong currents might be dangerous.
It has an old Muslim grave of Syeikh Abdul Rashid which is also frequented by chinese for some reason.

Pulau Telor is by far my favourite. It has a great sandy beach overshadowed by huge trees.
The beach might change after every storm, but due to the sandy bottom, no bulu babi!
Nice for a day swim and picnic.

Song-Song and Telor can be accessed via Kuala Sg Yan or Sungai Udang (about 40 mins trip), they might charge you anything from 2-300 ringgit for a day trip.
Bidan is accessible via Singkir Laut (about 1/2 hour), but i have no idea what the charge.

Do not go camping during the monsoon season, heavy winds might make it difficult to return.
If you go, do not pollute, already more than enough rubbish swept in by the sea!

The Sultan of Perak again! - by @lbert
  Posted:29/10/2007 - 16:39 - in category: politics Malaysia
His Royal Highness DYMM Paduka Seri Sultan Perak Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah, did it again.....
In addressing a conference of lawyers, said there have been recent "disturbing events relating to the judiciary" _ an apparent reference to a scandal involving a video tape that allegedly provides proof of judicial corruption.
"Sadly I must acknowledge there has been some disquiet about our judiciary," Azlan said. "I am driven nostalgically to look back to a time when our judiciary was the pride of our region, and our neighbors spoke admiringly of our legal system."

Sultan Azlan, the highly respected sultan of northern Perak state, stressed that "a judiciary loses its value and service to the community if there is no public confidence in its decision-making."

Bar Council President Ambiga Sreenevasan, in a speech to the same conference that the former king addressed, said that lawyers see increasing signs of a lack of trust in judges, such as contract clauses for arbitration outside judicial jurisdiction.
"In a nation like ours with aspirations to a first-world economy, the administration of justice is key," Ambiga said in a speech to the Bar Council's Malaysian Law Conference.

Will the royalty be the savior of Malaysia?

Listen to the Sultan! - by @lbert
  Posted:28/10/2007 - 11:14 - in category: politics Malaysia
The sultan of Perak said:
Educating the young separately according to their ethnic and religious background is extremely unsuitable for a multicultural Malaysia, Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah said.
Stressing the need for an education policy to unite all races, Sultan Azlan Shah said young Malaysians should understand and respect each other during their formative years.

This confirms what i said over and over, out in this country with the silly mother tongue education.
It is the start of segregation, and brings no integration at all.
What is needed are high quality government schools, without religion linked to it.
Religeous classes after the school curiculum!
Also out with stupid things like moral education and Islamic knowledge.
Islamic knowledge should be replaced with general religious knowledge.
Afterall at present the everage schoolkid in Malaysia does no even know what Christmas stands for, go figure...

So Krishamudin lots of work for you to do.
And probably all chinese parties will start screaming and kicking.
Well let them, integration goes way above any party goal, its the nation's future.
Live or die!
Like the sultan said:
As Malaysians who tread the same earth and breathe the same air, it is important for each citizen to be nurtured and shaped by the same education system.
National interest should be given precedence over the interests of a particular group.

 2008 expectations - by @lbert
  Posted:28/10/2007 - 08:39 - in category: general
2008 is drawing near.... what to expect in 2008 ?

1. General elections before April (after April Anwar can contest).
2. Petrol goes up to RM 2.60 diesel to around RM 2.10
3. Bread and other wheat controlled items up by 20-30%.
4. Another raise in price of milkpowder by 20% (contracts run out).
5. Toll tarifs go up by at least 10%.
6. Roads get more jammed than ever, noone takes measures.
7. Pak Tak Tahu announces a few more unfeasable corridors/projects, so at least cronies can fill pockets before the elections.
8. Volkswagen retracts from Proton deal. Proton might go under.
9. Malaysia Airlines still bleeding.
10. Air AsiaX spreads its wings, more competition for MAS.
11. Ringgit might get close to RM 3.00 to the US$ (keeps on sinking)

Not a great expectation, there goes your wallet again!

How can voters of Jerai, you voted this monkey in!
High time he goes and joins his fellow monkeys up on Gunung Jerai where he can do no harm.

Firefly flies to Subang - by @lbert
  Posted:25/10/2007 - 09:12 - in category: travel Malaysia
Firefly will start flying from Penang to Subang.
(do not look at the 9.99 offer it will cost you around RM 60- anyway, and back a minimum of 150.00 (99.99) or 246.00 (199.99) )
So if you have to go to KL only and not fly on, you can save a bundle as a taxi to the city will cost you a lot less. KL-Sepang RM 100+, KL-Subang RM 25+.
So worthwhile considering when you just fly up and down to KL.
Well some competition for Tony Fernandez will be good, so he knows he does not rule alone!
BREAKING NEWS:
AirAsia got the nod from the Government yesterday to operate two flights daily to the republic. Tiger Airways, Singapores own budget airline, would also be offered to fly the same route. Both fly on off-peak hours.
So we can wait for the price-war to start.
Good now the over priced MAS/SINGAIR monopoly finally got cracked!
Now it costs you around 300-400 one way, I think A.Asia and Tiger will go for 90-150 one way.
Flights will start in January.

 Negara kaya...spent spent spent - by @lbert
  Posted:25/10/2007 - 08:58 - in category: politics Malaysia
Look at this list where your money will go or already went....

1. Johor Crooked Bridge compensation RM 292 million.
2. Broga cancellation claim of RM 500 million filed.
3. Angkasawan RM 80 million.
4. Sumarines (3 of them) 1.035 billion Euro (RM 4.8 billion)
Including a ridiculous amount of commission to be paid.
5. Missile system ordered in April 364 million US (RM 1.1 billion)
6. 60 tanks from Poland (PT-91 Twardy tanks) 300 million US.(RM 990 million)
7. 40 More russian Sukoi fighters at US 1.6 billion (RM 5.28 billion)

This all adds up to to around RM 8.24 billion spent in a few years, of course payment spread over several years.

And dont forget the patrol boats build by the PSC-Naval Dockyard. The original cost of RM5.35 billion has now ballooned to RM6.75 billion.

Question: Does a developing nation need all this instead of development?
(Do not include Selangor which is an undeveloped 'developed' state).
Add this to the billions of debts left by Mahathirs administration, like Perwaja, Proton and many more.

Not yet incorporated are the losses of non feasible projects like the Northern corridor pipeline and others.

I only can say go figure......

 Malaysia's biggest friend - by @lbert
  Posted:23/10/2007 - 08:37 - in category: general
Remember some time ago the dictator/mass murderer Robert Mugabe was received with open arms by the government?
The same Mugabe who got a fortune in hardwood from Dr.M for his palatial mansion.
Well this is the state of his country:

From BBC 18 Sept.2007
Zimbabwean inflation under 7,000%

President Mugabe has imposed a price-control programme .
Zimbabwe's annual inflation rate slowed in August to 6,592.8% from July's record of 7,634.8%, according to the Central Statistical Office (CSO).
The slowdown came in the midst of a price-control programme imposed by President Robert Mugabe in June.
Businesses were ordered to cut or freeze prices for items such as bread and milk.
But critics say the measures have just deepened the chronic food shortages suffered by Zimbabweans.
At the end of August, President Mugabe introduced jail terms of up to six months for anyone caught trying to raise prices or wages.
The CSO said the decline in inflation was due to a slowdown in prices for food and non-alcoholic drinks.
Despite the fall, Zimbabwe's inflation remains by far the highest in the world.

Well always good to know who your friends are.... isn't it?

 Cameron - by @lbert
  Posted:22/10/2007 - 23:37 - in category: travel Malaysia
Last week i spent 2 days in Cameron Highland.
Lucky with the weather it rained at night.
Went up via Simpang Pulai, definitely a better road than the narrow one via Tapah.

Strawberry farms have been sprouting up like mushrooms, so many nowadays.
And i must say quality of the strawberries improved. They are not the sauer tasteless ones anymore.
Now they really taste good.

Flowers also plenty but its pity if you bring them back almost none will survive.
Maybe the amaryllus but the flower lasts only a week.

Also biological salads i tried and they taste good!
They were cheap 3 for RM 5.00
In general most vegy is more expensive up there than in the supermarket.
Not worth buying. Unless you like si-yong-chai (watercrest) which is cheap and young.
Two enjoyable days in the cold weather.

 Independent judiciary? - by @lbert
  Posted:22/10/2007 - 07:14 - in category: politics Malaysia
Foo Ah Kiow, the deputy minister, said the landmark decision in the Malik Hussein suit against the Government for his wrongful detention and torture under the ISA shows that the judiciary was independent.

I think the minister does not know at all what an independent judiciary is.
This case shows that there is at least 1 judge that does not take instructions and is not afraid to let justice prevail.
It also shows the kind of Special Branch police force Malaysia had.
If you read the torture Malik Hussein went through, it is unbelievable that his happens in Malaysia .... is this Islam Hadari?
The 2.5 million compensation should NOT be paid with rakyat money, but should be paid by the people involved in this torture. With number one this bastard Rahim Noor, you wonder how a person like this ever could get so high in the police force.

Read the vision of lawyer Malik Imtiaz in his blog.

Another one for Jozef Goebbels! - by @lbert
  Posted:17/10/2007 - 12:46 - in category: politics Malaysia
Malaysia plunged from an already miserable 92nd position to the 124th position (out of 169) under the Pak Tak Tahu regime.
Well done Malaysia. The country is accompanied by countries as Algeria,Kazakhstan,Jordan.
What do you have to say about this Jozef Goebbels a.k.a. ZAM. Yes right.... foot in mouth disease huh....
Everything seems to go downward except for the fucked up statistics in this country.

  Posted:11/10/2007 - 13:13 - in category: general
Let's put this thing in perspective. The government paid US$25++ million to put one man in space. This is the most expensive joy ride of the century. Imagine how much better Malaysia can utilise the money. Imagine the thousands of poor people who could benefit.
To me sorry...a lot of noise about wasting a lot of money. A leap forward for the country??
To thumb noses against Singapore and Indonesia? Pathetic.....
Get your priorities right Malaysia!!

 A day Hadyai - by @lbert
  Posted:07/10/2007 - 21:35 - in category: travel abroad
Last thursday we decided to go friday morning early to Hadyai for shopping.
I wanted to buy lots of bacon and Knorr/Maggi soup kiub babi, in Malaysia unavailable.
We were in Hadyai around 11 Malaysian time (there 10) so all he time in the world.
Some stuff is really cheap Listerine only RM 11.00 Malaysia RM 17++.
Went for all the needed things like raisins and sultana's which are cheap there, yellow curry powder that i can't find in Malaysia.
Of course my soup kiubs....
Than to Tops for bacon at RM 6.- Malaysia RM 9.- nowadays.
They had super nice Salami and Pepperoni for only RM 6.00 /100 gr Malaysia almost 11.00.
So bought a lot, now can make nice affordable pizza's.
Yoghurt and yoghurt drink cheap in Thailand. Delicious Meiji yoghurt with real whole strawberries only RM 0.90!
Lots of other stuff to much to name....
Did not dare to buy raw pork, allthough the price is only 5-6.00 compares to Malaysia RM 13.00, afraid customs might confiscate...
Stayed the night there, next morning back to Malaysia, an enjoyable trip.
Next trip will be with Songkran, which i love to celebrate there!

Tips for Raya Rush - by @lbert
  Posted:04/10/2007 - 08:14 - in category: general
Tips for the balik Kampung Rush this month.

1. Don't check your car before leaving. Its a waste of time and costs money.
2. On the highways 110 km road signs are all misspelled, they should read 170 km.
3. Never drive on the left lane, the left lane is for idiots only, even if there are 3 lanes or more.
4. Always overtake on the left, afterall you allways drive on the right lane.
5. Step on your gas where ever you can, after that brake as much as possible. This improves fuel inefficiency. And who cares the government is subsidizing.
6. If you have more than 1 car go back with all of them, so you can show them all off to the kampung folks.
7. Drive back in one rush, do not stop thats a waste of time.
8. Don't care about trafic fines, you don't pay them anyway, and if you have to you go and ask for a proper discount first.
9. On federal or state roads, double lines are road decorations, just overtake there, afterall you are a malaysian.
10. Do no wait for traffic lights to turn green, you can speed off earlier that saves time.
11. Give a shit about motor bikes, they are like mosquitoes. Just turn on your windshield wipers and wash the screen.
12. Red lights can be ignored if there is hardly any trafic, afterall it's your granddaddy's road!
13. Do not be polite, drive as you please because you are more important than any other road user.

Enjoy your stay in hospital during raya, and if worse the hole is only 5 feet deep!

 No entertainment.... - by @lbert
  Posted:04/10/2007 - 07:57 - in category: politics Malaysia
from the Sun 26Sept pg 9
"MPSJ Banning Circus During Ramadan"
PAS Secretary General Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar says the Subang Jaya Municipal Council is denying non-Muslims the right to watch circus performances by banning them during the month of Ramadan.
... he told Oriental Daily News when asked to comment on the council's move to stop the London Circus from showing in Puchong Utama with the reason that all entertainment activities must stop during Ramadan.

So why are the tv screens not blank? Is that not entertainment?
At least no politicians on tv during ramadan because what they talk is entertainment!
No quizzes, no singing shows no what.....
Ahhh better show the news only.....for the rest of the day blank the screen

These Talibans in Subang Jaya should be send to Iran or Afghanistan!
What happened to the multiracial country?

Rasa not so sayange. - by @lbert
  Posted:02/10/2007 - 17:42 - in category: general
Everybody knows the song Rasa Sayange.
We even used to learn it in school when i was a little kid (Yes the old colonial masters), this together with the names of all the Indonesian islands and their details.
I think it is a typical Indonesian song (in Holland in the 50's it was damned popular).
Now Malaysia is (mis)using it for its truely asia campaign.
The blogger Unspun in Jakarta published this about it:
The House on Monday urged an immediate response from the government to Malaysias use of the traditional Indonesian song Rasa Sayange in its Truly Asia tourism campaign.

House of Representatives member Hakam Naja of the National Mandate Party (PAN) said if the government could prove the song belonged to Indonesia, Indonesia should sue the Malaysian government.

The government needs to check on its origins, whether its from Indonesia or not, the deputy chairman of House Commission X overseeing education and tourism was quoted as saying by detik.com newsportal.
Rasa Sayange is believed to have originated in Maluku, where it has been sung for generations by people to express their love for the environment.

Check your phone bill ! - by @lbert
  Posted:01/10/2007 - 21:05 - in category: consumer affairs
From today on ALL mobile phone providers have to make detailed usage available for their customers.
This is also for PREPAID.
So Celcom, Digi and Maxis probably have it all available on their websites.
Celcom has......but it does no work for 1 meter!! Great effort Celcom. Using American dates (month first) and funny calendars, this was probably smacked together in a few days and not tested.
