The New Year wishes...... - by @lbert
  Posted:29/12/2005 - 10:14 - in category: general
For Malaysia i would wish:
1. a more fierce pm that spents more time in Malaysia and goes less abroad.
2. a higher interest rate even if it hurts the biggies but saves the economy.
3. an at least 10% higher value of the ringgit to curb inflation.
4. more press freedom, and non 'restricted' freedom of religion.
5. less flooding and a cleaner environment.
and for Penang a goverment without Dr Khoo and his clique! (no PORR)

for the world.....
1. Americans out of everywhere......
2. Americans stop dictating the world.
3. Americans and Europeans stop subsidies on products and WTO finally move forward.
4. US $ stops to be THE world currency, so they can swallow their own mess.

for myself a better health, this year was pestered by to many stupid diseases!

for you all a prosperous NEW YEAR !!

 Merry Christmas - by @lbert
  Posted:23/12/2005 - 15:31 - in category: general
Wishing everybody a merry Christmas.
Enjoy the days of.....drive carefully.
Meanwhile the big companies in Malaysia will be busy jacking up their prices again.
A big egg costs now 28-30 sen.
Nestle icecream went up from 5,99 to 6,50!!
Green apples 10 for RM 5- now 10 for RM 6-
Chicken went up 20 sen, and i cannot uderstand why the farm to consumer price is a 110% mark up.
And i can go on like that.....on the average raises of 10-20%.
Well i wish dr Zetti of BNM a new calculator for Christmas, as she keeps on saying inflation is below 5%. Ohhh if inflation is 5% why is my FD only 3%, i thought an FD rate should be roughly 1% above the inflation rate.
Well Chinese Newyear is next, so they can keep on jacking prices!!

 Inflation pericles.. - by @lbert
  Posted:16/12/2005 - 09:00 - in category: general
Today it was stated that inflation was at 3%+.
This is lying, inflation stands at at least 5%+!
If i look what all went up in foodstuff (10-20%), petrol, lots of imported goods, than i think that 5% is even way to small.
They have to keep on lying (Bank Negara) because they have to protect companies like Tenaga Nasional (sitting on a debt of 3 billion!!) and of course numerous others....
A 2-3% interest hike means for Tenaga that all their profit is wiped out.
This because of the silly system of so called independent power producers.
Proton probably would go bankrubt on the spot, and we better dont talk about Perwaja.
But whatever BNM thinks.... the longer they wait with raising interest, the more painfull it will be. Malaysia is an overblown balloon, and there is to much 'angin' inside, so some will have to go, otherwise the balloon will burst.
I dont think malaysian companies learned a lot from the financial crises (of course there are who learned).
Well the near future will learn, 2006 is around the corner....
The share market also inspite of all the rubish pep talks never reached the 1000 level, and is on a downturn again.
I do not see a that rosy 2006, inspite of all the inflated growth figures.

 Maids religion...... - by @lbert
  Posted:12/12/2005 - 09:36 - in category: religion
Hypocrisy in Malaysia goes to the top, now as a Malay you can only have a muslim maid.
I thought it would be the prerogative of the family to decide who comes in your house, but NO in Malaysia big brother decides for you.
On top of that i found a comment in Malaysiakini:
Being a non-Muslim, the maid could bring pork into the house despite being told that it is against Islam. She could do it stealthily, if not raw pork, then other non-halal foodstuff, and she may even feed your child with them.
Remember, since you and your wife are busy earning money, your child is looked after by a non-Muslim maid perhaps 20 hours a day. I am sure most non-Muslim families will not be keen to employ a Muslim maid to look after their toddlers.
This is more to do with your berputus asa, or losing hope, in your fellow Muslims, and despite your good intentions, you may end up failing in your duty to bring up your children as good Muslims.
By employing a Muslim, you are helping a fellow Muslim.

Isn't this mindset pathetic? Besides that it smacks of racism. Are we living in 2005?
I think it would do us a whole lot of good if we are able to not just tolerate, but appreciate the values of the diverse religions practised in this country.

How democratic is the british system? - by @lbert
  Posted:07/12/2005 - 20:09 - in category: politics Malaysia
To my opinion the british district system is a very UNdemocratic system, that is always in favour of the biggest party.
Take the last Penkalan Pasir elections.
9000 people vote Barisan, 9000 vote PAS
But because Barisan got a majority with 200 votes, they represent the area.
But 50% did not vote for them.... where is their voice?
SEE HOW DEMOCRATIC??

Now take the last general elections:
I only look here at votes for Dewan Rakyat.
I took the votes from Perlis/Kedah/Penang
In an equal representation the result would be:
BN 58% of the seats Opposition 42% of the seat. And thatis a totally different perspective, and this guarantees a no rubber stamp Dewan!
See more for the data....

Wow BN won.....at what cost - by @lbert
  Posted:07/12/2005 - 09:21 - in category: politics Malaysia
BN won in Pengkalan Pasir by a majority of 129 votes.
This clearly proves that inspite of sending all the big shots, all the shitty promises and all the millions spent, they hardly changed the mindset of 18000+ people.
Last election PAS won with 50+ majority.
So all the millions were spent to change the mind of 240 voters. Thats several thousands of ringgit per voter who hopped over to BN.
It shows the bankrubcy of BN's election machinery.
All the promises of this and that, afterall is UMNO paying it out of its own pocket?

Winning at what cost? - by @lbert
  Posted:06/12/2005 - 11:52 - in category: politics Malaysia
I am really wondering what the actual amount is Barisan is spending to win over Pengkalan Pasir.
18000 voters only, and it seems that voters living outside are even getting airtickets paid in order to come and vote! (NST)
Than all the expenses of the big shots, and all the people brought in + food + lodging.
6-7 million seems a very small amount to me.
But that is already almost RM 400- per voter.
Thand all the hand-outs ....wow, if the would do this in the general elections, the general elections would cost around 100 million to Barisan alone........
Are there no better things to spent this money on? Well we wait for the results....and seen last times result, i would not be surprised if BN looses by 1 vote!

 Fresh products..... - by @lbert
  Posted:05/12/2005 - 18:18 - in category: general
When yoghurt was introduced in Malaysian supermarkets around 1995 or so it was fresh stuff, real fresh, it had a shelve life of 1 week.
I used it therefor to make my own youghurt.
But the shit you buy now is so full of preservant that even 'natural' yoghurt does not taste natural anymore.
What do you get nowadays? A packet of dead bacteria and some chemical rubish.
The same goes for many almost all milk products, look at the label! ALL STUFFED WITH PRESERVING CHEMICALS. Even so called fresh milk (which is recombined)

Now if you want to make your own yoghurt it is so damned easy......and it is really gordious without all the rubish.
Get some yoghurt (khefir) from an indian shop, that one is fresh!
Now to make your own, make 1-2 liters of milk, yes simply from milkpowder (1/4 powder rest water).
Poor in 1 tablespoon of your yoghurt or khefir.
Put it in an oven at 45-47 degrees centigrade.
Wait 5-7 hours, and voila, you have your natural product.
Keep some apart for your next batch, before you add fruits or sugar.
1 liter costs you around RM 1.60. (Supermarket RM 10+ so bye bye Dutch Lady and the likes)
There is a difference in bacteria content between yoghurt and khefir (khefir is a plant used to make yoghurt).
I enjoy mine everyday......

 Hypermarkets..... - by @lbert
  Posted:04/12/2005 - 09:04 - in category: general
Through The Jakarta Post and some blogs if ound that in Indonesia Carrefour got a nice fine........
KPPU declared on Aug. 19 that Carrefour had carried out an unfair business practice by applying a "minus margin" policy in its contracts with suppliers. The commission imposed a Rp 1.5 billion (US$148,515) fine on the company and demanded it stop the much-disputed terms of trade.
KPPU is the Business Competition Supervisory Commission
A minus margin is a penalty Carrefour imposes on a supplier that sells its products at a lower price to a competitor of Carrefour. Carrefour has inserted the minus margin policy in its trading terms since early 2004 and said that it was a negotiable term.

Carrefour Malaysia does not even have a website, so does Giant!!
Do hypermarkets have these tricks in Malaysia too is my question....

 Circus Barisan - by @lbert
  Posted:03/12/2005 - 20:09 - in category: politics Malaysia
I have never seen a bigger circus than the whole puhaa around the Pengkalan Pasir by elections.
The people there must be getting overwhelmed by all the big shots that walk around (for the first time) in their town.
Every evening TV is full of 'news' from the front, as onesided as possible of course, and PAS does not get a chance at all to say a word on national TV.
That is Barisan Nasional democraty, yak, yak yak!
All i can say is that i drop dead of laughing if BN looses in this 18000+ people district.
Which would render their 'election machinery' to something good for the scrap heap.
