Watch your troat... - by @lbert
  Posted:29/07/2004 - 20:50 - in category: general
Malaysia is so called on sale again....
Well watch your throat because they're gonne cut it if you dont watch out.
This so called sales is now for some time already the most expensive time of the year to buy things.
Just wait till the sale is over, than go to the shop and bargain.....not now.
One or two weeks before the sales they raise the prices and during the sale you get 10 or 20% and at the end it's more expensive.
Like buying those RM 1- piring on the market.
Weight afterwards what you got, yes you got cheated!
There is NO competition between supermarkets in Malaysia, and totally none between department stores. They are all pricey with NO exeption.
If i go here to Tesco the vegy is 50-120% more expensive than just accross the street on the market in Taman Ria!
But than the average Malaysian does not even know prices, they just go sapu...
Pay with plastic and have a headache later.
Because Tesco is the only hyper market here, i have had plenty of time to see their tactics.
Since container freight from Europe to Malaysia is a fraction of charges the other way round, they try to dump piles of items from England which are close to the expiry date in Malaysia.
Look at their special offers all items expire after one more month on the shelf.
Malaysia is a nice dumping ground for them to get their money out of old stocks.
The rest.... food stuf as vegy/meat/chicken and cosmetics, tirrible expensive.
Only electronics is a fighting market.
Well wish you happy shopping, and keep in mind that even a Visa card has to be paid!

Dr Koh are you still alive? - by @lbert
  Posted:25/07/2004 - 17:16 - in category: Penang
Walking through Georgetown nowadays really pisses me off.

Here and there there are some beautifull restored building (Private restored of course)
But the number of delapidated on purpose abandoned houses are everywhere.
I really wonder where this Dr Koh has been all these years he was in charge.
Sorry Dr Koh, but you have done NOTHING for Penang. It is getting worse every year.
How about the once beautifull and now overgrown houses near the market (Prangin Mall) ??
Yes you know how to put an awfull coffin called Prangin Mall smack in the middle of town and destroyed hundreds of old houses for it.
Filling pockets is a hobby it seems, outer ringroads and all this rubish but the city is getting worse.
Oh yes spending a few hundred thousand for new pavement here and one million there.
But how about preserving Penang Dr Koh.
Do you know what the word means Dr Koh, i think you dont.
Go and have a look in Singapore where they repaired/restored old area's and the renovated houses are going for up to 1 million ( yes dr Koh 1.000.000 SING dollars) a piece.
It as a pedestrian zone and booming!
What is Georgetown? One big parking zone unmaintained and no progress.
Old Georgetown is a beauty of a living area, but that requires a goverment with vision.
THAT is something you absolutely dont have Dr Koh!

Religous freedom? Where? - by @lbert
  Posted:24/07/2004 - 07:37 - in category: politics Malaysia
In the past few days i have been shocked to see a big part of the religious freedom in Malaysia go down the drain.
The first one were the apostasy cases which were rejected.
This was the first blunt case where religious freedom was rejected.
And although i do no am an expert in religious things i know that there is one thing written:
Surah 2.256 of the Quran that says very clearly, Let there be no compulsion in religion.

The second one was the conversion of minors against the will of the mother.
Here there was clearly shown that there is to much grey area in the law.
They even dont know who handles what (Normal or Syariah court).
The judgement delivered by a (muslim) judge is very disputable.
This case should have been handled by a judge who is a non-hindu and a non-muslim to avoid any partiality.
I actually dont know why the lawyers did not protest straight away against a muslim judge handling the case.

The third case was a school in KL ordering that non-muslim students can not bring non-halal food into the school canteen.
The non-muslim students make up 60% of the school.
This was to protect the muslim person who runs the canteen.
Here i wonder whether anyone is forcing the canteen holder to eat non-halal food.
Furthermore they said, the students were not alowed to throw non-halal rubish.
Well this is the limit.
So in future non-muslims can no longer throw their non-halal rubish because the dirt collection might have muslim people working for them.
This is straight away depriving people of non muslim origine to eat what they want, because they can throw any leftovers or rubish.

The argument for the above regulation was Malaysia is a country where Islam is the state religion.
Yes, accepted, BUT they forgot to mention that religious freedom is quaranteed in the law.
Another very disputable interpretation of law.
Is this the moderate modern country that Malaysia is supposed to be??
No these are all hair cleaving cases. And its high time that this kind of things stops as they really might hurt the future of a beautifull country.
These things belong in countries like Iran, but not in Malaysia!
And also high time that judges show some guts in verdicts, in the Westminster system they create law. But they seem to be to scared and hide themselves behind funny arguments.

Here we go again.... - by @lbert
  Posted:22/07/2004 - 17:36 - in category: politics Malaysia
Read this Utusan Malaysia
Proof of another Malaysia Boleh project.
40 million to be wasted on the 'appreciation by Malaysians' of current and former pm's.
What a shit! A pm is nothing more than a political figure in Malaysia not even voted in the job.
It is his duty to do his job, what is there to appreciate??
Is there no better place to waste 40 million?
Plenty of people in pittyfull cicumstances who can be helped with that amount.
Forget this Malaysia boleh project!!

 Migrant workers... - by @lbert
  Posted:22/07/2004 - 12:10 - in category: politics Malaysia
Read something about a plan to kick 1.2 million workers without documentation out of the country.
What do they try to achieve?
If they do, construction business will collapse, industry is without workers.
Furthermore, why are they here, well only for 1 reason, the unscrupulous malaysian industry employs and exploits them.
People without documents are nice victims for the bloodsuckers, they employ them on a scandalous salary, dont pay them in time (if they ever pay them)
Than if taken away by police or customes, wow nice ... dont have to pay anything at all.
If they want to stop this, fine the employers and not the workers, they only need money for their families to survive!
Fine the employers, not 5000 or so but 100.000 for every illigal worker they employ.
If they dont pay up bankrubt them.
But than you have an other problem, crony companies cannot be bankrubted in Malaysia.
That's boleh land.

A had to go through an unwanted stay in the hospital due to some heart problems.
That's why there was no blog for a few days.
I was here in the hospital before and i must say that in Malaysia i am really impressed by the devotion of nurses in the hospitals.
They work long hours and have to run around and still pay attention to even the most nagging patient. (I had a terrible one next to me)
They really do a great job!

 Shocking....... - by @lbert
  Posted:15/07/2004 - 11:05 - in category: general
The death of Nur Atiqah if found shocking.
This child has been suffering so much in her short life that it is hard to describe.
I pitty the parents who had to see all the suffering and were not able to do anything because of all the bureaucrats in Malaysia hindering any efford the speed up the proces of an operation.
The saw fit to drag it since early February till early July.
Isn't this a great shame, i sincerely hope that all who were part in dragging their feet are deeply ashamed of themselves.
For the little child, her sufferings are over. Hopefully this will give some solace to the parents.
For those who hindered the effords to speed up the treatment of the poor child, i would say, imagine if it was your child, dumbo's!

Isn't it ridiculous that people pay up to 40-50.000 Ringgit for a number plate for their holy cow.....???
Even more ridiculous that goverment ministers do it at goverment expenses.
Are there no people in this country in dear need of help, while the money is wasted on god forbid, A NUMBER PLATE!!
Malaysia boleh!

Malaysia at its smallest - by @lbert
  Posted:09/07/2004 - 16:12 - in category: politics Malaysia
From the news:
The police have rejected the application for a permit to hold a debate on the controversial Internal Security Act which pits Opposition Leader Lim Kit Siang against Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz.

Is the police so scared? If not who gave the order??

Policing and oil - by @lbert
  Posted:07/07/2004 - 10:30 - in category: politics Malaysia
I read with great surprise that the goverment 'confessed' that Anwar did file a police report on the Perwaja steel scandal.
It seems Pak Lah did his homework not good.

Well isn't it a scandal that:
a. the goverment needs 5 years to find that out
b. the police shined in inefficiency by obviously not doing anything with the report for 5 years.

One wonders what the use of police is when reports are just there for the paperwork only.
After that they can collect dust!

So much for goverment transparency.

The same transparency i find in a report that Petronas made a multiple in profits this year.
But the transparency of the biggest company is like a glass of murky water.
Nothing proper is published.
How much is Petronas's net profit, where is the proper profit and loss for public view?
How much petrol and gas did Petronas sell on the future market, against way to low prices?
No statements of that kind either, all hidden.
Well Petronas was the Tun's cow for years so it would really be interesting to know how much of Petronas's future income has been squandered for the sake of Malaysia boleh.
It would good to know how dry the cow has been milked.

 Oriental Jam - by @lbert
  Posted:06/07/2004 - 22:50 - in category: politics Malaysia
So many fruit this year especially rambutan.
I decided i wanted to know what rambutan jam would taste like......
So cleaning a few kilo's cooking them with a few kg of sugar, and oh boy ... it became a jelly, not jam.
It seems that rambutan hardly have any pectine. So you can add pineapple which has a lot, or apple but than it turns brown.
So after searching i found a company in Penang (Sim Company) that sells pectine.
Just add 4 teaspoons on a kg of fruits and you have a gorgeous rambutan jam.
Make sure you use the sweet sauer rambutan not the dry type.
It was already to late for manggis jam, that for next year....

Go Penang, swimming.... - by @lbert
  Posted:01/07/2004 - 08:07 - in category: Penang
I was not surprised but totally flabergasted by the fact that the Penang goverment wants to allow the ferry operator to stop service from 1 till 6 at night.
This is totally ridiculous, do they have brains? Yes i know they them selves all have big fat Mercedeses under their #sses
But there are still people who hardly can afford a motorbike, or use public transport.
So now if you live in Prai / BW and work shift in Penang, if you start at 5 or 6 you better bring you swimming trunks to swim accross.
Same for those who come back from work late.
This is another typical sample of governing without thinking.
The ferry service already years ago should have been extended with a seperate fast boat for passengers only.
Furthermore it is still unacceptable that when i want to go to Penang, I cannot find a proper parking space for my car in BW.
If i use the one near the station it will cost me more than the ferry if i park the whole day.
Well I am one of those people who find a car useless in Penang. No parking or driving around for ages to park your car, what i waste of time.
From the ferry i can walk to Komtar in about 10 minutes, or take the free shuttle.

Penang should simply BAN all cars from the city center. That would be the end of a big problem, and clear the air a lot.
People can walk.......and the goverment can put in more minibusses who without trafic jam can drive very fast.
Dont say its to hot, that is the same stupid argument as when they say in Europe it is to cold or to wet.
All big cities there one by one are closing their centers for trafic.
And a walk only center is really great I would love it!
Hello KL....something to think about......
