 Merdeka....... - by @lbert
  Posted:31/08/2004 - 18:00 - in category: Penang
In the spirit of Merdeka, visit this page:
Cyberjaya Park
Here you can see how your goverment wastes your tax payers money.
Scandalous.
I personally found the whole 47th Merdeka day a waste of money, celebrated asif it was 50 or 100 year.
How many millions wasted this year, can you imagine what it's gonna cost when 50 years Merdeka.
This is not the way to create patriotism.
But in our Yan the firework display at 12 was nice.

But at 12 they had to raise the 'biggest' jalur gemilang in daerah Yan.
This biggest, highest, longest and so on is really getting sickening!

 Growth? - by @lbert
  Posted:24/08/2004 - 19:38 - in category: Penang
Economy 'grows' faster than any predictions.
But the question is, is anyone feeling it? As far as the common person is concerned absolutely NO.
Inflation is way above what the goverment says it is. They are lying through their teeth.
Savings are very high they say, yes but who'savings? Vincent Tan or any other tycoon' savings?
They comon man is up to his neck in forced debt.
I would like to see real figures on debt.
On on what basis is the 'growth' calculted, absolute figures?
Has the devaluation during the economic crisis been taken into consideration?
Look at England at the moment there private debt is 1 TRILLION pound sterling.
Can you imagine that... 1 billion million.(Thats 7 trillion ringgit!)
Allthough malaysia wont have a 1 trillion private debt, but it surely is into the tens of billions.
This is all non existing money, in other words will end up as inflation!
All this is possible because of low interest rates and house prices that keep on moving upward.
But, quality of housing is not moving upward, everywhere they cut corners to maximize profits.
This means that house prices will not go up forever. Any small change in interest rates upward will have a big chance that the whole cardcame collapses.
To many people live on the edge of their possibilities.
Tons of unneeded things are financed by creditcard at 18% pa.
And plenty of people walk around with 2 or 3 of these plastic monsters.
If the interest on their housingloan goes up, they cannot pay back the creditcard.
So the bank will seize what is on the account. Than they cannot pay back the house and the car anymore.
And than?? Right the whole thing collapses.
Malaysia is playing a very dangerous cardgame trying to let consumption fuel the economy.
This can go for a while but will eventually do more harm than good.
And this country is up to its neck into debt of al kinds of 'Malaysia boleh' projects.
Where is the goverment gonna get the money?
The stock market is not moving up, only moving south, because investors know the gouverment is lying through their teeth.
They shy big investment and all have turned into short term players.
At any time they can pull out their money.
And growth does not go on forever.....what goes up must come down.
Yes the laws of nature still prevail, with or without Pak Lah and all the economists.

 Birdflue...... - by @lbert
  Posted:23/08/2004 - 14:06 - in category: general
After they thought it would not hit, it hits.......
The birdflue entered Malaysia.
Inspite of all the things i read about it there are several things i dont understand.
First of all to my thinking, if you cull all birds in the affected area there will never be any resistance against the disease.
And as number 2 isn't there any medication?
If you cull all birds than there is no surviver....., if you dont kill them, there will be survivers, and they will be resistant against the disease.
And what is the use of killing all chicken and ducks if all other birds still fly around.
Birds dont carry passports neither do they recognise borders.
Yearly there are hundreds of thousands of birds coming into Malaysia on their way to Australia and other parts of the world.
They also pass through Thailand, so what to expect? That they avoid places with birdflue?
Dont make me laugh. The only reason birds are not innoculated is $$$ and nothing else.
But than is Malaysia exporting chicken to Japan or USA??
This all leaves lots of open questions.
On the bright side Probably finally the egg prices will go down.
After screwing up prices from 19 up to 24/25 sen they finally get what they deserve.
Same goes for the price of chicken, allways the stupid excuse the food prices went up.
Well prices will go down now, and i do not pitty the traders at all!

 Absent.... - by @lbert
  Posted:18/08/2004 - 20:26 - in category: Penang
Was absent for a few days. Enjoyed Penang. I love walking the old streets there and look at old shops and houses.
And of course get pissed off by the neglect on purpose of some other nice old buildings.
It only confirms my vision that Koh Tsu Kun has done a lousy job in Penang, shame shame shame. Thats all i can say.
If people let rot away the heritage of Penang for the sake of money, give them a warning.
Subsidize renovations. And thos who willingly detroy or neglect seize their property and give them a hefty fine on top of that. That should help. Stop construction of concrete bunkers in the city center.
Look at Pranging Mall this ridiculous coffin in the middel of town serves NO purpose and looks like Samy No Value's pillars in KL.
All cracks, nice progress, when is it gonna fall down?

 What a mentality.... - by @lbert
  Posted:12/08/2004 - 22:27 - in category: politics Malaysia
Samy Vellu had the guts to say:
If you send the ACA (Anti Corruption Agency) to my ministry i will immidiately stop repair works on the highway pillars till they finish their investigation.
What an arrogant misfit!
Thank you voters of Sungai Siput for voting the 'quality statesman' back into power.
What a disgrace.
I hope piles of reports will be filed!
Isn't it time the person get sacked??

Haze is back again... - by @lbert
  Posted:10/08/2004 - 19:46 - in category: general
The haze is back again in full force.
This time supported by all the Kedah farmers who find it necessairy to burn their padi everytime.
This inspite of the fact that its not allowed.
But in Malaysia laws are made for the dustbin.
Well thanks Indonesia + Kedah for making living conditions unhealthy again.
How many year can Indonesia keep on burning before there is nothing left to burn??

Malaysia is getting smaller.... - by @lbert
  Posted:05/08/2004 - 21:41 - in category: religion
Yes Malaysia is getting smaller and smaller and smaller...
Narrower and narrower and narrower.
Now Mel Gibson's movie 'Passion of Christ' has been approved for 'christians only'.
This is really getting more ridiculous by the day. Wanne see the movie well i hope you have a baptism certificate. And if I am non-religious?? In other words have no religion? I cannot see it either!
You cannot bring a sandwich with ham into a school canteen, a festive party of TV3 is declared 'haram' by someone who calls himself mufti.
What's up next?? Separate waste collection from Muslim and non-muslim households.
Separate banknotes for Muslims and non-muslims.
Its starting to look like the old south-africa with its apartheid.
Where did the Malaysian tolerance go??
And than ask people the wave the flag for independence day......Malaysia tak boleh!

 Patriotism. - by @lbert
  Posted:04/08/2004 - 11:23 - in category: politics Malaysia
It is getting close to end of August again.
The whole country will be forced to flag the 'jalur gemilang' again.
I say forced, because it is so fake. Last year goverment 'officials' went around harassing shopkeepers that did not have a flag outside their premisses.
Is this patriotism? Absolutely NO.
Patriotism if there is any comes from the inside of people.
No way it can be instilled, or forced.
The result will be the opposite.
All these patriotic songs on radio and tv before or after news achieve nothing>
Oh one thing they achieve every foreigner watching it drops dead of laughing....
The songs are pathetic, the words bizarre, the songs mostly terrible.
Do they really think it will create patriotism?
Last year it was our bo-tie minister, this year its our dpm with a funny speach to 'encourage' everyone to flag.
Don't they see themselves that it is really pathetic?
Plenty of people in this country have all reasons to not be that patriotic.
Think about that.

 So democratic.... - by @lbert
  Posted:01/08/2004 - 14:27 - in category: politics Malaysia
After the debate LKS-Dato' Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz i found some excerpts here and there.
Some are really astonishing and showing how democratic UMNO parlementarians are:
Dato' Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz, believes debates in parliament are useless.
I quote:
"It is not useful at all if we debate it in the House, as the government has the overwhelming majority. It is therefore pointless to waste time debating issues which the opposition would lose anyway."

And now you wonder why parliament is a rubber stamp??
Opposition is only there in his thinking to trip the ruling goverment, and that is a crime.
I think after 40+ years it is high time the BN parlementarians get a taste of opposition.
They have been ruling to long and have turned into a machine without sences.
Polictics is all about money that is proven over and over again.
But at least now you all know:
Nothing should be discussed in cabinet, in parliament, in public. UMNO knows what is good for you, so shut up!
And than the following arrogance:
The internal security minister, he said, would not sign detention orders if they are subject to judicial review. National security is best honoured if the minister does it secretly. It does not matter if the order is justified or not, if the minister says someone is a threat, one is.
Well this gives a lot to think........
So much for democraty, do they even know what it means?
