Comment from Indonesia - by @lbert
  Posted:28/01/2008 - 22:27 - in category: travel abroad
I am at this moment in Solo, where today Soeharto's body arrived for burial.
I am amazed how much attention the whole thing got, as several years ago he was kicked out of office during giant demo's.
All TV channels did not show anything than Pak Harto today. And a few days back SBY called for forgiveness for Soeharto by the people of Indonesia.
Looks like Indonesia is the same as Malaysia, orang mudah lupa!

 Biofuel a disaster? - by @lbert
  Posted:15/01/2008 - 10:44 - in category: environment
The EU is considering a ban on various types of biofuel. Among it is palm oil!.
This because the destruction of forests in Malaysia and Indonesia (especially) is huge. The result devastating for wild life.
Read this article in the International Herald Tribune for a backgrounder.
So it seems that the peak of palm oil is over, even when Malaysia wants to introduce it itself (2% mix in diesel).
But what is a 2% mix? And it seems biodiesel proces just as much CO2 as normal diesel.

 Fuel hedging - by @lbert
  Posted:14/01/2008 - 10:43 - in category: general
I read several stories about the fuel hedging of Air Asia.
All stating that they bet on a fuelprice below $90.-
The current price is $92.-
The thing is that none of the articles mentions until when AA has covered their needs on the future market.
And whatever they say, future markets always remain speculative, any small political or weather problem can change oil prices nowadays rapidly. Mainly because of giant demand from China and India.
It remains a difficult thing to predict prices say 6 month ahead. Just like currency trading.... you can win or you can burn your fingers on forward contracts.
If the price remains above $90- Air Asia has no other choice than raise the fuel surcharge. And i hope these things will be included finally in the advertised prices as mentioned in my last blog.
And for a good writeup about Tony Fernandez read Today-Online

Stop this cheating! - by @lbert
  Posted:13/01/2008 - 09:53 - in category: consumer affairs
In Europe now airlines cannot advertise with ridiculous prices anymore.
They all have to advertise the REAL price of a ticket, including surcharges and other funny fees.
And i think it is high time Malaysia follows!.
Ridiculous when Air Asia or Firefly advertise with so called 9.99 tickets or 19.99 tickets when the actual price is around RM 100.-
Also one thing i absolutely do not understand is why if we book online (and do all the work ourselves) we still have to pay a RM 25.00 for administration charges. They even do not issue a ticket, so their cost is 0.00 !!
This is just consumer cheating nothing else.
Hello minister when is the government waking up and put an end to this non sense?
Afterall the supermarket does not charge me RM 25.00 at the cashier when i check out, and do they have a minyak masak surcharge?

I just finished 1 chemo treatment in GH Alor Setar for my liver problems.
Came through well...11 more to go , arggggg!
Hope all will be like the first one. Luckily the regime does not cause hairloss so wont be bold yet.

Next week i will be off to Yogya for 2 weeks to do some work and a few days relaxing. After that on Feb. 1st straight up for my next chemo round (2 1/2 days).
Will post some photo's from Yogya/Solo when back.

Food for thought.... - by @lbert
  Posted:07/01/2008 - 10:22 - in category: general
What if the sins of the powerful who have oppressed an entire nation and what if more than one person - perhaps the administration as a whole - is responsible for this?
Isn't it about time that someone wonders, if a minister has to resign for screwing a partner, than what should a government do for screwing a whole nation?

The first ever..... - by @lbert
  Posted:02/01/2008 - 17:31 - in category: politics Malaysia
The first ever politician in Malaysia who took the consequences out of his behaviour and resigned from cabinet and party in Malaysian history is Chua Soi Lek.
At least he was honest and admitted........
He did not blame it on people wanting to bring him down or the foreign press.

When do the fat lady and this MIC guy follow and a few others i can name.
