The Indonesian way - by @lbert
  Posted:24/05/2005 - 19:06 - in category: travel abroad
I am at present in Yogya Indonesia for some business.
As it was Wesak i thought i go to Borobudur to see whether i can take some foto's of the Wesak Pesta. Well i succeded but i did not go into Borobudur, they had the guts to raise the entrance fee for tourist from US$ 5 to US$10- that is Rp 90.000- and a local pays just Rp 4.000-, that is 22 times the local price.
I was so pissed that i only showed the casher my middle finger. Indonesia really knows how to kill of tourism, what a stupid buch of dummies, i dont know under which minister is falls, but he should receive an special award something like ' The Asian Award for killing Most Tourist Arrivals'.
Well Indonesia is empty and will remain empty, tourist wise...they dont want progress!

The docter denied entry - by @lbert
  Posted:20/05/2005 - 02:00 - in category: politics Malaysia
That was a shock....dr M was denied entry into Israel.
What a big laugh, this man want to go to a country the Malaysian goverment is not even recognising.
How do you want to enter a country you say does not exist?
Well he could not bluff his way through, probably they just asked who the hell are you.
Actually i am surprised they did not arrest him. I think they have all the reason to.
Well finally someone tought him a good lesson!

 Pathetic Valentine.... - by @lbert
  Posted:18/05/2005 - 15:41 - in category: general
A quote about Valentines Day:
Apart from its Christian connection, the festival of love 'can encourage vice among teenagers', says Islamic Women Consultative Council head Kamilia Ibrahim.

Do those people have nothing else to do than putting salt on every snail?
It seems that the even dont have the slightest about the meaning of Valentines day!
Dont they have a special place to ban this kind of morons to......

Transparency and corruption - by @lbert
  Posted:13/05/2005 - 10:01 - in category: general
All the talk without action has given visible results.
Malaysia tumbled in the worldbank statistics.
All about fighting corruption and tranparency.
Thats the biggest lacking thing in this country, see the figures below.
They all went down and that after the 'transparent' big M!
The biggest tumble for control of corruption, sounds familiar doesn't it.
Well done prime minister, cakap yes, bekin serupa where??

Double sided sword - by @lbert
  Posted:08/05/2005 - 21:29 - in category: general
The raise of petrol prices will prove to be a double sided sword for Malaysia.
This brainless operation was totally unnecessairy and will only have a negative effect for the people.
A lot better was lift the pegging of the ringgit and the ringgit would have gone up by 20% at least!!
Thus making a petrol price hike unnecessairy, because for buying malaysian petrol would be more expensive too.
And at least all imported items would go down by 30% or more!
Now the price goes up, all foodstuf will of course go up by twice the price hike percentage of diesel because everybody can start jacking up again.
The the labour union starts screaming for a pay rise and the salaries go up.
Than the prices can go up and so on.....
This is the brainless solution to a problem in Malaysia.
Furthermore Bank Negara can keep on trying to impress people by telling that this has figure has increased by so much and this figure increased by another so much, but forgetting of course that all these figures are inflated figures.
Refusing to let the peg go now simply will result in inflation.
The ringgit is 20% undervalued, well expect 20% inflation over the coming 1 or 2 years.
This year inflation is already way over 5% inspite of all the figures they try to show.
Just look around and add up things:
Toll up, petrol up by 30%, ferry penang up by 20-100%, foodstuf up by at least 10%, bus fares and taxis up.... you name it.
Than the goverment is telling everything is sooooo good with Malaysia.
All talk talk and talk, but the actual situation is very bad.
The big M left a deficit which is so huge that probably noone still knows how huge it is.
But Malaysians gotta suffer for all this grandeur.
All the borrowing everywhere around is the second biggest problem. Any hick up in the economy and you will see house prices collaps and people unable to serve loans.
The whole facade of growth in Malaysia is more or less based on borrowing, that means based on borrowed time.
It is just wait and see how long it lasts, and who are the victims again? Yes the poorest in this country of course.
Another thing is that now it is also ridiculous to charge a double roadtax for diesel cars and the price difference of diesel and petrol is 25% only!

 Queens Birthday - by @lbert
  Posted:02/05/2005 - 16:17 - in category: general
In Holland it is tradition that on the queens birthday (last day in april) almost everything is allowed.
You will find freemarkets everywhere, people sell whatever they like, the whole attic is on the street. Than lots of people selling food, indonesian satay, surinam or vietnamese lumpia, dutch sausages you name it.
On top of that giant concerts here and there.
I went to Amsterdam together with an other 200.000 who came by train, a 100.000 by bus and probably 1/2 million by car. The whole city was closed for trafic, so start walking!
The weather was great and all the streets loaded with people.
See some of the pics below for an impression.
All in all a great day.
