 Maxis y're sick! - by @lbert
  Posted:31/12/2004 - 11:31 - in category: general
I find it disturbing not to say disgusting that Maxis is trying to make money out of the Tsunami.
You can register to a reuters news alarm for RM 5- a month.
Shame on you Maxis!
Protest against this.....
Go to their website Personal Enquiries and flood them with protests against their greed!
I wrote them:
Thank you for showing your GREED by trying to make money out of the Tsunami disaster.
It really shows the zero mentality of companies like MAXIS!
Shame on you MAXIS!

 Tsunami - by @lbert
  Posted:27/12/2004 - 16:43 - in category: general
Yan luckily escaped mostly the tsunami after the earthquake in Sumatra.
Sungei Yan has all the wooden bridges washed away and a few boats cracked.
It happened during low tide, that was the luck probably.
Waters went out till everything was totally dry all the way in to the sea and than with force the water came back.
Pantai Murni also no damage, i heard that only in Kuala Sala several boats disappeared, and that there was damage in Tj Dawai, which is more on open sea.
The worst hit is Penang were Batu Feringhi and Tj Bunga got 40+ people killed and boats smacked around everywhere.
Condolences to the victims families.
I only don't understand why nobody issued a warning for the wave to come, as the tremours were felt all over Malaysia, my house was shaking for over 2 minutes, the kolam ikan had its water splashed around.
So someone should have know what was to expect, and issue a warning...

Yan upside down... - by @lbert
  Posted:22/12/2004 - 11:33 - in category: general
Yan is gonna have a party.......
The whole pekan is upside down, and closed.
One or other big shot is coming to town, a menteri or so they say.
To do what i asked, to open the taman they made in the pekan.
Oh... I thought this taman was made when our daerah was still ruled by PAS, that was the times some things were done here and all the money did not disappear.
Well it seems BN now wants the feathers of PAS.
Oh by the way during the PAS reign of Yan tong sampah on the road sides were introduced to make it easy to dispose of rubish. On top of that they were emptied as well mostly in time.
BN takes over and all the tong sampah have disappeared, where the hell are we supposed to dispose of rubish now?
Burn it like we did 10-15 years ago......good efford Kedah Maju in 1010, don't make me laugh.
Oh...and dont ministers have anything else to do than waste their precious time on opening silly tamans in a small kampong?
Not to mention the waste of material, man-hours and food/drinks to cater all those who find themselves important.
If i have time i will try to get some shots of this ordeal and post it.
PS I just learned from a banner that it's the minister of tourism coming....... daerah Yan bersih the banner says......
Well i will repost some shots i have!
Nothing has changed since i took these foto's in Batu Hampar.
Titi Hayun is even worse......

 Toll hikes... - by @lbert
  Posted:22/12/2004 - 09:19 - in category: general
Toll hikes are common good is boleh land.
Seems to return almost daily by now.
Well people you voted this goverment in place, it was the same coalition that pushed the Plus contracts through the throat of the rakyat under the great mono-leadership of dr. M.
Now they see they have been cheated and suffer, quit short sighted isn't it?
This people caring goverment has always been caring about themselves only.
The whole Plus highway is a chain of pocket filling. Billions come in every year, where does the money go?
Can't they publish the salaries of the ones in charge in Plus?
I bet they all receive salaries with 6 zeros!
Many stretches of the highway were build so lousy that they had to be replaced within 1 year. (A/S-Gurun) Some even have been resurfaced 3 times or more (Kamunting).
All in the spirit of Malaysia boleh, the rakyat has been left with the giant debts of a 'Privatised' company where the goverment is the biggest stake holder.
Penang bridge for sample pays itself back around 4 times when the consession ends.... great deal (for the consessionair).
Well you get the goverment you deserve, and the results are accordingly.

Anwar in Indonesia, a comment - by @lbert
  Posted:13/12/2004 - 10:06 - in category: politics Malaysia
This is what i took from The Jakarta Post about AAB's request not to speak to Anwar while in Indonesia.
All i can say is hear, hear...........
Much ado about Anwar
Why the fuss?

What should have been a simple social visit nearly escalated into a potential diplomatic row that would have put two friendly governments in a needlessly embarassing position.

And eventually, this episode only helped to stimulate greater sympathy for the very person one government sought to restrict.

Former prisoner and Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's recent visit to Indonesia is another test for the growing democratic climate in Southeast Asia.

In the past, it was commonplace for mutually repressive political regimes in the region to shun politically blacklisted figures of neighboring countries. We, in Indonesia, to some extent, are thankfully moving away from such practices.

Political opposition is part-and-parcel of democracy. To excise courtesy simply because a visitor is a known-political opponent is a culture Indonesians should reject.

Once perceived as the heir-apparent to Mahathir Mohammad, Anwar fell out of favor with the then-Malaysian leader and was jailed in 1999 for what his supporters claim were trumped-up charges of sodomy and graft. After spending six years in jail, Anwar was freed in September when a higher court overturned the conviction.

Despite his release, Anwar is barred from seeking political office until 2008.

Kuala Lumpur's consternation over Anwar's visit to meet with notable figures to Indonesia is understandable. As a regime which has dominated the political scene for decades by effectively muzzling open opposition, the enterprise of someone like Anwar is a foreboding sign for its future.

However, whether Anwar represents a legitimate democratic opposition candidate in the future is something, in the end, that Malaysians should decide.

But waging a public relations battle against Anwar on foreign soil only fuels sympathy for him and adds to his standing as a new patron saint for political prisoners in Southeast Asia.

Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi last week cautioned foreign leaders about meeting Anwar, saying they should consider Malaysia's feelings about the country's opposition leaders who sought appointments.

Badawi's remarks were clearly inappropriate. Anwar is neither a convict nor a fugitive. That he is regarded as an "opposition" leader should not discourage Indonesian leaders from meeting him.

If Malaysia professes to be a democracy, then opposition leaders are legitimate members of the political infrastructure and have equal rights.

Anwar's tour here, for example, is parallel to any visit conducted by Indonesia's opposition leaders to other countries. Would Jakarta express scorn if the Golkar Party's Akbar Tandjung or the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle's Megawati Soekarnoputri met with senior regional politicians?

We think, and hope, this would not be the case.

If Malaysia is not claiming to uphold democratic principles and is in fact a place where oppositions are considered subversive, then the context of Badawi's remarks are more explicable.

The Prime Minister's comments also fly in the face of the recently concluded ASEAN Summit in Vientiane at which member nations professed a desire to forge ahead with political development as part of a greater ASEAN Community.

If speculation is to be trusted, then the most-regretable outcome of this affair was President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's decision not to meet with Anwar as a result of Kuala Lumpur's comments.

As Indonesia's first democratically elected leader, Susilo should be at the forefront of its defense. Diplomacy may require such overtures, but as friends and neighbors both countries should also be brutally frank with each other.

In the end, Anwar's visit was really much ado about nothing.

Anwar came and went, the same way he arrived: With much fanfare and little substance. He was the darling of the media while here, but that will be his fate anywhere he goes.

It is true Anwar met with, among others, Vice President Jusuf Kalla and People's Consultative Assembly Speaker Hidayat Nur Wahid.

However we are sure that such meetings will have little impact on the sway of Malaysian politics, or are likely to enhance Anwar's standing as a protagonist of Malaysian reformasi in that country any more than before he arrived.

Well afterall it was another Malaysia boleh show.......

 So silly.......so funny! - by @lbert
  Posted:08/12/2004 - 20:53 - in category: politics Malaysia
Anwar Ibrahim went for a visit to Indonesia and met up with the deputy pm Jusuf Kalla and speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly Hidayat Nur Wahi.
Believe it or not this was a statement of our prime minister:
Badawi told Reuters in an interview that foreign leaders should think about the feelings of Malaysia's government when the country's opposition leaders sought appointments.
This is really shameless! Do opposition leaders have the right to meet other people or not.
Maybe not in Malaysia but elsewhere in a civilised world they have.
When other Asean countries commented about the Anwar trial, plenty of hulabalu was made by the Tun about non intervention in internal affairs.
When Thailand is having problems in the south, what is Malaysia doing?? Yes constantly meddling in internal affairs of Thailand!
Yet another Malaysia tak boleh!

Dr Koh this is rubish... - by @lbert
  Posted:07/12/2004 - 11:00 - in category: Penang
In a reply to comments that the Penang goverment is doing nothing to avoid the decline of tourism. Koh commented on reports that highlighted the dismay of repeat tourists at the massive traffic jams, incessant roadworks, dirty beaches, streets and food stalls, and general state of decay in Penang.
He commented:
The state government welcomes comments and criticism from the media on the state's affairs so long as they are constructive ideas for the state government to implement.

What an utter noncence......Dr Koh became pm in 1991 and since 1991 they have done NOTHING only crazy pocket filling projects have been created (a concrete coffin smack in the middle of Georgetown... have you seen the cracks??)
Nice old shophouses are rotting away without any efford to restore them.
Ayaa than blame it on SARS again....
Since 1991 you did nothing, sorry to say that.
Sorry Dr Koh, all nonsence, just admit it your goverment has turned Penang from a pearl into a worthless fake stone!

 18.6 billion....... - by @lbert
  Posted:03/12/2004 - 09:49 - in category: politics Malaysia
That's the net profit of Petronas for the first 6 month of their year.
That roughly translates into 37.5 billion for one year.
Can you figure out that amount.... ?[red]37 with 9 zeros![/red].
With an employee headcount of 18.600 that is a net profit per employee of 2.016 million Ringgit per employee or translated into US $
528.000 dollars per employee, this amount is amazing.
Without this the Malaysian goverment and the previous 'leader' would have been bankrubt years ago if it were not for this cash-cow.
And still the goverment has no money, that leads to one question... where did all the money go?
How many obligations are still under the carpet and how many did not show up yet

Touch And Go STINKS - by @lbert
  Posted:02/12/2004 - 12:23 - in category: general
This morning i received a letter about deactivation of my Touch-and-go card.
This SUCKS this is a card you bought and did not obtain free of charge!

I replied this to them:
Dear Sir/Madam,

I herewith wish to protest against your unilateral thread to deactivate my touch and go card.

The more since you have the guts to even charge a RM5- maintenance fee.
This is outrageous and a breach of agreement.

You accept advance payments without giving the customer any benefits and collect millions of interest on this every year.
You charge an amount for buying the Touch and Go card. I bought the card remind you.
I never signed any contract with you only advance you money, so what agreement do we have?
This means you have no right to deactivate my card, unless you purchase back my card and refund the balance i have.

This is MY money and not yours,

Furthermore your letter is dated 23 november i receive it today december 2nd. Does snail mail take that long?

I wish to receive a confirmation that my card remains active.
In case of a deactivation and or penalty i will bring this case before the consumer court in A/S Kedah.

I allow Jeff Ooi/Screenshots weblog whome i send a copy to publish this email online for public viewing.
Probably i will receive back a cut-and-paste answer, and that is standard procedure in boleh land.
The customer is always the sucker in Malaysia (they think)
